My Life in Ranching and Rock & Roll Canadian music legend Barney Bentall, best known as the frontman of Barney Bentall and the Legendary Hearts, brings his storied career to the stage in a powerful new solo performance. Blending songs, heartfelt stories from the ranch and road, and captivating visuals, this intimate show offers a rare glimpse into the life of one of Canada’s most celebrated singer-songwriters. Barney has been nominated multiple times for Juno Awards and earned a Juno with his band The Legendary Hearts for Most Promising Group of the Year. He has also been nominated for several Canadian Folk Music Awards and won for Vocal Group of the Year with The High Bar Gang. Barney is perhaps best known to Sidney audiences for his many multiple night appearances at The Charlie White Theatre with The Cariboo Express, his multi artist revue that helped raise over 7 million dollars for many charities across western Canada. Sea Star Academy and Mary Winspear Centre present Sea Star Academy Ages 8-18 Sea Star Academy is a professional, performance-driven musical theatre training program for young performers. Students receive expert instruction in singing, acting, and dance technique — the three pillars of a true triple threat — in a supportive, high-quality environment designed to build confidence, discipline, and versatility. The Academy runs as a 14-week program made up of two 7-week terms. The first term focuses on training and technique in all three disciplines, with everything connected to an end-of-term production. The second term shifts into rehearsals, culminating in a fully staged show on December 19th — two performances for family and friends to enjoy! Classes are held Mondays and Wednesdays, 4:00pm–6:00pm at the Mary Winspear Centre, with students attending one day per week during the technique term. Term begins September 9th.
