Vancouver Island
Golf on Vancouver Island
One of the longest golf seasons in the country, because it rarely freezes and never really stops. Soft greens, tree-lined fairways and a handful of courses where the ocean is genuinely in play.

A season that barely ends
The mild coastal climate means most courses on the island stay open year-round. Peak condition runs from late spring through early autumn; winter play is entirely normal, on soft ground, with cart-path restrictions and green fees at a fraction of summer rates.
What winter costs you is roll, not access. Expect the ball to stop where it lands and plan a club more into every approach.
What the courses are like
The defining features here are trees, elevation change and water. Fairways are often cut through second-growth forest with tight lines off the tee; several courses run along the shoreline with real ocean exposure and the wind that comes with it. Greens are generally soft and receptive because it rains.
Resort courses offer stay-and-play packages and the easiest visitor experience. Municipal and semi-private clubs are cheaper, friendlier and frequently more interesting golf.

Booking and etiquette for visitors
Book tee times ahead in summer, particularly at weekends and at resort courses. Most clubs welcome visitors, and many will pair a single with a group rather than turn them away — say yes, it is the fastest way to learn the course.
Dress codes are generally relaxed but not absent: collared shirt, no denim at the private clubs. Rain gear is a legitimate part of the bag here, not an afterthought.
