Moving beyond biopic mechanics, the story unfolds through moments of dislocation, misfired intentions, and unexpected solidarity as John navigates family estrangement, social misunderstanding, and his own burgeoning voice. Set between the Border towns of the 1980s and later Glasgow, the film examines the porous border between perception and meaning, between restraint and impulse. For four years, High School Open Mic Night has been creating a space for Campbell River youth to perform, and share their talents. This Halloween, the program is taking over the Tidemark Theatre for a special Halloween Spook-tacular! Local youth from Carihi, Timberline and Robron are invited to take the stage, and everyone is invited to come out and cheer them on. Whether it’s music, spoken word, comedy or something completely unexpected, High School Open Mic Night gives young people a welcoming place to try something new and perform in front of a live audience. Admission is pay what you can, with tickets available in advance or at the door. Every ticket purchased helps support this local youth program. Can’t attend but still want to help? Purchase a ticket anyway and we’ll make sure it gets into the hands of someone who can use it. **There’s a lot of conversation about creating more opportunities for young people in Campbell River. High School Open Mic Night is one of them, and this is a chance for our community to get behind it. Costumes encouraged!
