About
Willow Point Lions Hall. Enigmatic singer-songwriter Belle Plaine hails from the heart of the Canadian Prairies. She brings creativity and versatility to every musical moment: a charming folk singer, honkytonk front woman and clear-eyed storyteller. Her eclecticism has seen her perform internationally, with symphonies, at music festivals and in intimate house concerts. Produced by Paul Rigby (Neko Case, Garth Hudson), The Weather takes Belle Plaine’s synthesis of folk, early country and roots music in a new direction to exist on the edges of indie rock and country. Its deeply feminine songwriting perspective hits hard when delivered through the vehicle of her definitive tone and versatility as a singer. The infinite horizon, farming work ethic and sincerity of her upbringing transports listeners to this modest, yet vast, landscape. Her writing has been favourably reviewed by Rolling Stone, Exclaim! and No Depression, and her voice has been called “effortless, versatile… both girlish and husky in the same song”, “sultry, seductive, fragile, and dusky while still capable of room-filling bombast when the moment calls for it”, “the voice of an angel”, “to borrow an old cliche: she could sing the phone book…” Belle Plaine has built a loyal following that continues to flourish and h
