The night

Before you go

Protecting a watershed used to mean one thing: keeping drinking water safe and reliable. Today, it means much more. Watershed managers now juggle land use, forest and wildlife management, species protection, climate change and growing wildfire risk. UVic Geography alumnus Joel Ussery has seen that shift firsthand. Drawing on his 25-year career with the Capital Regional District (CRD), Ussery will reflect on how the practice of watershed stewardship has changed, and on the wide range of knowledge and skills needed to meet today’s environmental challenges. He’ll also speak to the important role geographers can play in this work, and how his own undergraduate experiences at UVic helped shape an evolving, wide-ranging career in environmental stewardship. 📅 Friday, November 6, 2026 🕝 2:30 PM (refreshments at 2:00 PM) 📍 DTB B215 All are welcome.
